Pamukkale

Pamukkale

I visited Pamukkale during a tour of Turkey in 2012. There are hot springs of calcium carbonate rich water here. The water is directed through a series of irrigation channels through various travertine pools, where the warm water collects and people can bathe.

At the top there is a traditional baths that have been in situ since the time of Hierapolis, a Greco-Roman town built on this site in the second century BC.

Peacock

Peacock

I found this peacock displaying in a park in Madrid

Sahara

Sahara

This is an image of small dunes and a perfect sky in the Moroccan Sahara. We trecked into the desert on camels to spend a night there and it rained on us!

Arcachon Sunset

Arcachon Sunset

I have been to Arcachon near Bordeaux a few times, but got lucky this time with a fantastic sunset.

Jetty

Jetty

I found this dilapidated jetty poking its way into the mediterranean in Southern Turkey in the town of Kas.

Uchisar sunset

Uchisar sunset

We spent a few days in Cappadocia, Turkey, in 2012. I shot this sunset silhouette of Uchisar Castle from Goreme. The castle has a great form, and I was just able to squeeze in the two minarets as well. Can't wait to go back to Cappadocia for more adventures and great photos...

Kizkalesi Fortress

Kizkalesi Fortress

This fortress lies just off-shore in the town of Kizkalesi in Southern Turkey. Like a lot of Turkish towns on the mediterranean coast, especially in the east, Kizkalesi was a little the worse for wear, but it has this wonderful castle to make up for it...

St Basil's Cathedral

St Basil's Cathedral

St Bails's Cathedral sits at one end of Moscow's Red Square and is a surprisingly small, but spectacular and absolutely unique in its form. We were lucky enough to get stunning light on our second attempt to photograph it and this is one of the pictures I captured.

Balloons

Balloons

We took a trip in a hot air ballon in Cappadocia, Turkey. It was spectacular! Between 100 and 200 balloons set off from just outside the town of Goreme every morning at sunrise and carry you over the other-worldy Cappadocian geology of fairy chimneys and valleys of white, red and purple stone.

Dew

Dew

Early morning dew on grass somwhere on the west coast of Ireland. Not sure where anymore...

Cappadocia by night

Cappadocia by night

This is the view from the top of the hill overlooking the town of Goreme in Cappadocia, Turkey. Many of the locals still work and live in buildings carved out of and into the soft white rock prevalent in this area.

There are also fantastic rock formations known as fairy Chimneys and several underground cities in the area - built to protect the local Christian populations from marauding Arabs in the 7th and 8th centuries.

Gecko

Gecko

I found this beautiful gecko in Amsterdam zoo and he was kind enough to keep still while I composed and executed this shot.

Sunset in Galway

Sunset in Galway

This is the old concrete diving board in Galway - a bit of a local landmark. I shot it with an old and not particualarly good zoom lens and was lucky I was able to silhouette the scene to make up for the poor lens quality.

Marina

Marina

I came across this scene in a marina in North-Holland in 2012.

Temple of Aphrodite

Temple of Aphrodite

This is the temple of Aphrodite in the ancient Greek city of Aphrodisias in modern day Anatolia, Turkey. These were my favourite ruins in Turkey - I preferred them to the more famous (but claustrophobic and horribly touristy) Ephesus ruins.

Here, there is space to breathe, a lot to see, and plenty of time to see it - a really under-appreciated historical gem.

Balloons!

Balloons!

This was taken a few seconds after we had taken off in our balloon in Turkey. We must have been no more than 40 or 50 feet off the ground. Every time I look at this shot I get the urge to start lookign at flights back to Cappadocia...
